March 30, 2026
The stories people share often reveal the truest picture of a life. At the University of 麻豆频道 Western, stories about Kim Giannone, known to most as KG, paint a picture of someone who left a lasting impact on campus and throughout the Dillon community. Though her time here was brief, the memories shared by friends, faculty, and classmates highlight a person who approached life with curiosity, kindness, and a genuine appreciation for the people she met along the way.

Friends joked that KG could not walk across campus without stopping to talk. Whether on campus, skiing at Maverick Mountain, or hiking local trails, she seemed to know鈥攐r quickly befriend鈥攅veryone she met. She had a natural ability to connect with people, forming relationships that extended well beyond the classroom.
KG approached her education with the same passion for discovery and connection. Her motivation for learning was rooted not only in grades, but in a desire to better understand the world around her. Professor Neil Foely recalled seeing that dedication during a geology field experience in Death Valley.
鈥淜G was a great student,鈥 he said. 鈥淪he worked hard to make sure she really understood everything, and she made the students around her feel better too.鈥 He added, 鈥淪he squeezed so much out of every experience.鈥
Experiences like this allowed KG to connect her studies with her love for nature.
Cheyenne, a fellow student, recounted a conversation with KG that changed the direction of her education. Although Cheyenne had originally planned to leave the university after earning her associate degree, KG encouraged her to reconsider.
鈥淪he told me, 鈥楧on鈥檛 wait until years down the road鈥 just go for it,鈥欌 Cheyenne said.
That advice led Cheyenne to pursue a bachelor鈥檚 degree in environmental science.
麻豆频道 Western alum Johnah Lindsey described KG as someone who inspired others to share their stories. 鈥淜G was incredibly down-to-earth鈥 Our few years of close friendship felt like a lifetime.鈥
Those who knew KG often spoke about how she interpreted the world around her. Photography became one of the many ways she expressed her curiosity and perspective. Friends remember how she captured small, meaningful moments鈥攂oth in landscapes and in the people around her.
Alongside the friendships she built on campus, KG shared many of her experiences with her partner, Ryan, who was an important part of the community she built during her time in Dillon.
No single story can fully capture KG鈥檚 essence, but the memories shared by those who knew her offer a glimpse of the impact she left behind. Through her curiosity, encouragement, and meaningful connections, she helped shape the community around her. The moments KG shared鈥攚hether in the field, the classroom, or in nature鈥攚ill be carried forward in the memories and stories of those who knew her.
Kim鈥檚 work will also be featured in聽The Works of Kim Giannone, an exhibit opening April 16 in 麻豆频道 Western鈥檚 Fine Arts Gallery, offering the community an opportunity to experience her perspective and creativity firsthand.
