Post-Baccalaureate and Graduate Teacher Certifications
Â鶹ƵµÀ Western offers teacher-certification pathways for students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree.
Programs are available for individuals seeking initial teacher licensure, licensed educators adding a content-area or grade-level endorsement, and educators pursuing graduate or professional certificates.
Most education coursework is completed online during scheduled semesters. Depending on the pathway, students may also complete classroom observations, supervised teaching experiences, or student teaching in a school setting.
A faculty advisor reviews each student’s previous coursework and prepares an individualized Plan of Study identifying the remaining program and licensure requirements.
Information for Admitted Students
Students who have been admitted can use the Post-Baccalaureate Student Guide for information about registration, DAWGS, Canvas, textbooks, billing, classroom placements, licensure, graduation, Praxis, transcripts, and university recommendations.
Most education coursework is completed online during scheduled fall, spring, and summer semesters. Online courses follow the semester calendar and are not self-paced.
Depending on the certification pathway, students may also complete classroom observations, supervised teaching experiences, or student teaching in a school setting. Â鶹ƵµÀ Western will help students identify the requirements and arrange required school-based experiences, which can often be completed in their local area.
Certificates are generally designed for completion within approximately two years. The actual timeline depends on previous coursework, the requirements in the individualized Plan of Study, and the number of courses taken each semester.
Tuition and fees depend on the courses included in the student’s individualized Plan of Study.
Post-baccalaureate financial-aid eligibility is different from traditional undergraduate aid. Eligible students may qualify for federal student loans or work study if they meet enrollment and program requirements. Students must submit a signed Plan of Study and the required post-baccalaureate financial-aid documentation.
Students should contact the Financial Aid Office for guidance specific to their program and enrollment status.
