200 – Academic, Grant and Research Policies
200.1 Grading System and Grade Point Average
Grades shall be assigned to all students taking any graded course. A grade point average will be calculated for each student for each term and a cumulative grade point average for all graded courses taken at Â鶹ƵµÀ shall be calculated.
200.2 Advanced Placement Program (AP)
Â鶹ƵµÀ allows the awarding of college credit to individuals who pass Advanced Placement Examinations (AP) with a score of 3 or higher.
200.3 College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Â鶹ƵµÀ allows awarding of college credit to individuals who successfully attempt College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests.
200.4 Student Academic Freedom
Â鶹ƵµÀ has established regulations by which its members must abide and procedures by which its organizations function in order to provide a campus atmosphere conducive to the intellectual and personal development of all members of the Â鶹ƵµÀ community.
200.5 Classification of Students
Â鶹ƵµÀ established certain criteria for classification of students.
200.6 Add/Withdraw
Â鶹ƵµÀ has a process for officially adding a class, dropping a class, or withdrawal from all classes at the institution.
200.7 Hold Harmless
Â鶹ƵµÀ administration and faculty agree that students will be held harmless for absences due to University sanctioned activities in so far as possible.
200.8 Academic Appeals

200.9 Grade Appeal, University Policy Grievance, and Concerns about Faculty or Administration

200.11 – Credit Hour Definition
Under federal regulations section 600.2, a credit hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than:
1. One hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester of credit; or
2. At least an equivalent amount of work as required in paragraph (1) of this definition for other academic activities as established by the institution, including laboratory work, internships, practice, studio work, and other academic work leading to the award of credit hours.
201.1 School of Outreach
Â鶹ƵµÀ, through its School of Outreach, provides alternative education through continuing education, workforce development, dual enrollment, and lifelong learning offerings throughout Â鶹ƵµÀ.
201.10 Posthumous Degree
In exceptional circumstances, Â鶹ƵµÀ may award degrees posthumously.
203.1 Student Enrollment and Attendance
Students at the University of Â鶹ƵµÀ Western enroll on a semester basis and are expected to register (including paying tuition and fees) prior to the start of the term for all classes they plan to complete during that term and, once registered, to actively participate in learning activities associated with courses in which they are enrolled. Based on this policy, the following procedures will enable university officials to determine the enrollment status of students.
204.1 Textbook Adoption
Â鶹ƵµÀ will follow all applicable state and federal policies with regard to providing textbook information to students.
205.1 Military Credit Policy
Â鶹ƵµÀ will endeavor to accept the maximum number of military credits per applicant. The campus follows board of regent policy 301.5 (E) and accepts credits for prior military courses and training for credit as recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE).
206.1 Distance Education Policy
Distance Education courses at the University of Â鶹ƵµÀ Western will comply with standards described by the U.S. Department of Education, Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Â鶹ƵµÀ Board of Regents Policy 303.7, and U.S. Copyright Laws.
